“Three friends go to a cookie shop to buy a box of cookies. The store owner isn’t around but a newly hired assistant sells them a box of cookies for Rs. 30. The three friends pool in Rs. 10 each and leave the store with the box of cookies. Soon thereafter, the store owner returns and checks with the assistant to see if he sold anything. He tells about the box of cookies he’d just sold. The owner tells him that the box was actually only for Rs. 25 and that he should go and return Rs. 5 to the three gentlemen. Now, this guy, either worried about how the 3 friends would split Rs. 5 between them or just out of plain dishonesty, decides to keep Rs. 2 with himself and returns Rs. 3 to the three friends, who then take back a rupee each. Now, the contribution made by each of the three friends is Rs. 9, totaling up to Rs. 27 and there are Rs. 2 left with the assistant. 27 + 2 = 29. So, where did the remaining Re 1 go? “
Someone had posed me this riddle when I was a kid, probably 12-13 years old, and it had left me thoroughly confused for some time. Since then, I’ve shared it with several people and many of them do get puzzled, at least for a short while. Pose it to a kid and you are very likely to have some fun.
In case, you yourself are a bit confused, click on the comments section for the solution.

Solution:
Rs. 2 that are left with the assistant actually come from the Rs. 27 paid by the three friends and hence, there’s no reason why we should be adding it to Rs. 27.
The actual maths should be:
Money Paid by the Friends = Money with the Store Owner + Money with the Assistant, or
Rs. 27 = Rs. 25 + Rs. 2
I got this one!!

Hi anurag,
Actually when the shopkeeper returned 5 buks then contribution was 8, 8, and 9 equal to 25 (if we take the whole figure). so when the assistant kept 2 rs with him and returned 3 rs to these fellows then final contribution is 9, 9, and 10. which is equal to 28.so final figures will be 28 + 2 = 30.
